The Multiscale Biology Group of Jan Huisken at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is a pioneer of light-sheet microscopy technology and has recently established the Flamingo project of shareable microscopes as an innovative approach to provide a large community of researchers with access to high-end advanced imaging. The project offers a unique chance to standardize imaging protocols, metadata annotations, image file formats, and (remote) image data processing in collaboration with the NFDI4BioImage consortium. Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioimaging Data Storage and Management (f/m/d)

This position is expected to be filled by July 2025. The regular working hours will currently be 39,8 hours per week. The employment contract is limited until 29.02.2028. Salary: Pay grade 13 TV-L.
In this position, you will
Conduct original research in bioimaging data management, with a focus on decentralized, remote imaging and the integration of OME-Zarr with Flamingo
Exploit the NFDI4BioImage network to implement Flamingo microscopes as a platform for location-independent image acquisition, storage, and sharing solution.
Analyze and measure local infrastructures and develop and evaluate optimized workflows in modern imaging experiments.
Study test cases to demonstrate how FAIR principles can be effectively implemented in bioimaging research.
Write documentation and guidelines to facilitate the adoption of FAIR concepts within the bioimaging community.
Contribute to the development of new research projects and initiatives in the field of bioimaging data storage, management, and sharing
Support research and teaching in the field of image acquisition, management, and visualization
Present research findings at conferences and workshops
Publish research results in top-tier journals

Your Profile

PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, or related fields.
Strong research interest in modern bioimaging, image acquisition workflows, and data formats.
Proven experience in software development, focusing on data storage solutions and cloud-based systems.
Strong expertise in Python. Expertise in Java, C / C++, or similar programming languages is desirable.
Understanding of high-performance and/or cloud computing platforms, scalable workflows, and large datasets.
Experience with Linux, macOS, or Unix-based systems.
Experience in biomedical image analysis is desirable.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to create innovative solutions for the bioimaging community.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed, international team and communicate complex technical concepts clearly in English.
